At Adroit, we’re proud of the personal growth and leadership development our team members continually pursue. Recently, Tom from our Albury office participated in the transformative Mandala Projects Leadership Program. The program offered a unique opportunity to expand leadership skills, build networks, and step outside of one’s comfort zone.

The program’s design aimed to challenge participants across a variety of areas, including leadership fundamentals, group dynamics, community resilience, mental health, personal well-being, and public speaking. Although Tom was initially nervous, he’s incredibly thankful he embraced the opportunity.

A Journey of Self-Discovery and Growth

The four days kicked off with group activities and icebreakers in Yackandandah. The goal was to establish connections and set the stage for the personal leadership journey that lay ahead.

Throughout the experience, the focus was on self-reflection—understanding personal leadership styles and how each participant views their role as a leader. It was a journey designed to challenge and encourage new growth, both individually and as a group.

One of the key components of the program was the opportunity to share personal stories and vulnerabilities. Although it was difficult, Tom describes it as deeply rewarding. “It allowed everyone to learn about each other on a deeper level and gain a new perspective on how difficult some people’s journeys have been,” he shared.

Fun and Unexpected Challenges

True to the program’s theme of pushing boundaries, one of the more unexpected challenges was learning and performing a flash mob dance in Myrtleford. Yes, Tom was at the centre of it all—and in a bright pink shirt! “I never thought I’d do a flash mob, but it’s all part of the challenge. It was a great way to break out of the box and try something totally new.”

Throughout the four days, participants were asked to teach a skill to the group. This wasn’t just about learning new skills but also about getting to know each other’s interests and hobbies. For Tom, the skill he taught was origami, specifically paper boats—a craft passed down to him by his late grandfather.

Another memorable activity involved creating a group art piece using only “poking paint,” an exercise that tested teamwork and creativity.

The Power of Community

By the end of the program, Tom felt that the group had evolved from strangers to a tight-knit community of trusted, real individuals. He credits Anthony and Mel, the program’s facilitators, for delivering content in a fun yet challenging way that fostered an environment for learning and personal development.

Tom encourages anyone looking for a personal challenge to dive in headfirst. “If you’re looking for the next step in your personal or professional growth, this program is definitely worth it. It’ll push you outside your comfort zone and help you grow as a leader.”

Thank you, Tom, for sharing your inspiring experience! We look forward to seeing how this leadership journey continues to shape your personal and professional life.
