Tom and Jake Reach the Finish Line of Their 24-Hour Challenge
After the first lap, the scale of the challenge quickly became apparent. Looking at the board and seeing how much lay ahead made the task feel daunting, with both questioning whether their goal was achievable.
The biggest challenge came around 1am, approximately 42km into the event, when Jake suffered a suspected groin strain. Despite significant pain, he continued on. Around the same time, Tom began experiencing pain in his right knee, adding another obstacle to an already demanding night.
Running alone in the dark proved to be an experience in itself, with only headlamps lighting the trail. Every shadow seemed to come alive, although thankfully the only wildlife encounter was a wombat.
As the sun rose, support from friends and family provided a welcome boost. After receiving some treatment on his knee, Tom was able to increase his pace throughout the morning, recording his fastest lap on lap 23 in 27 minutes and 13 seconds.
For Jake, the challenge became even tougher. From 8am onwards, he was unable to run and instead walked every lap, often using the full 60 minutes available and leaving little time for rest.
Despite the setbacks, the pair continued to push forward before coming together to complete the final lap side by side.
“It was an emotional moment,” Tom said. “We’d trained for more than seven months, but neither of us truly understood how hard the challenge would be physically and mentally.”
Beyond completing the event, Tom and Jake have raised more than $5,000 towards their $10,000 fundraising goal, something they are incredibly proud of.
On behalf of everyone at Adroit Insurance & Risk we congratulate Tom and Jake on their remarkable achievement and thank everyone who has supported their journey so far.
